Professor Wei-Chang Li and student Yi-Xiang Chen from Institute of Applied Mechanics recently presented their research on a beat-frequency clock generator based on a dual-resonator resonant-switch structure at the IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium (IFCS 2026), a major international conference in the field of frequency control, and received the Best Student Paper Award.

This study investigates how the stability of a beat-frequency clock generator based on a dual-resonator resonant-switch structure varies under different operating conditions. After fabricating the device using a CMOS-MEMS process, the team systematically measured and quantified the clock generator’s Allan deviation and clock jitter. The results show that there is an optimal driving voltage at which the clock generator achieves the best stability. This research provides further guidance for the development of ultra-low-power MEMS resonant-switch clock-generator devices.
